Trades and dividends come from your Share Journal workbook (Investment Journal and Dividends tabs). Dividends are not taken from Yahoo.
Prices are Yahoo Finance weekly closes (unadjusted, so dividends aren't counted twice). Stocks Yahoo doesn't carry are marked at your last trade price and shown with *.
Currency: everything is in AUD. Trade costs use the AUD amounts in your journal. Holdings are valued by converting the local price at the week's AUD/USD or AUD/KRW closing rate. "Local currency" view uses the journal's local-currency columns and Yahoo's local price.
Key figures
Portfolio value = units held × week-close price in AUD, plus cumulative cash dividends. Sale proceeds are not kept in the value.
Net invested = total buys (incl. brokerage) − total sells (net of brokerage). DRP purchases and dividends are excluded because they are income, not new money. It is not your original capital: selling for more than you paid reduces it.
Gain = portfolio value − net invested. It equals realised profit + unrealised gain + dividends.
Total return (TWR), time-weighted: each week's return = (end value − net flow that week) ÷ start value − 1, chained across weeks. This removes the effect of when you added or withdrew money. Annualised = (1 + TWR)1/years − 1.
Money-weighted return (MWR) uses XIRR: the annualised rate that makes your dated cash flows (buys, sells, cash dividends, and today's holdings value) net to zero, so it reflects your own timing. Total MWR compounds that annual rate over the full period: (1 + XIRR)years − 1.
Dividends
Cash dividends add to value as received and are never counted as contributions. Reinvested (DRP) dividends buy shares at the DRP price; the matching Buy row in your journal is flagged as a DRP, so the shares are counted once and not treated as new money.
Franking credits are not included in returns. Dividends are only as complete as your Dividends tab.
Positions
Average cost uses the weighted-average method: buys add units and cost; a sale removes cost at the current average (so the average doesn't change) and realises proceeds − average × units sold. Same-day buys are processed before sells.
Unrealised = units × current price − remaining cost. In AUD this includes currency moves on US and Korean holdings. Total return = unrealised + realised + dividends.
Realised P&L here is not a tax figure: Australian CGT uses specific parcels, not average cost.
Charts
Top chart, cumulative returns:Portfolio (TWR) is your time-weighted return and includes dividends (cash dividends and dividends reinvested through DRP), restarting at 0% at the start of the selected range (1Y, 3Y, 5Y or All). Click a name in the legend to hide or show a line.
S&P 500 TR is Yahoo's total-return index converted to AUD (unhedged). ASX 200 TR uses the dividend-adjusted price of the STW ETF as a proxy, as Yahoo has no ASX 200 accumulation index. Both are chained over the same window as the portfolio line.
Bottom chart, portfolio value:Portfolio value (holdings + cash dividends), Net invested, and Gain (value − net invested).
Cumulative dividends counts only dividends received as cash. Dividends reinvested through DRP are excluded because they appear as additional shares in portfolio value.
Ownership pies show current holdings by market value in AUD. In the sector pie each colour is a sector and each slice is a stock (hover for details). Sector and country come from Yahoo, and the country is the company's headquarters, not where it is listed. Manual overrides live in countries.csv (e.g. KWEB is shown as China).
X-axis: labels sit on 31 December each year (month-ends in the 1Y view). Points are weekly.
Limitations
Weekly data: trades are treated as happening at the end of their week, so intra-week moves are approximate.
Holdings from before the journal starts (it begins in 2019) are not included unless entered; any sale larger than the recorded holding is partly ignored and flagged in the warnings.
Stocks marked at your last trade price show no gain or loss between trades. Yahoo prices are split-adjusted, so an unrecorded split would distort a holding's value.
